Most Commonly Requested Reasonable Accommodations

  1. Note-takers in class for students unable to write or take notes because of a disability.
  2. Extended time on exams, either 50% or 100% additional time, as determined by the DSS office.
  3. Exams taken in a controlled environment at the Disability Support Services office to offer a distraction reduced space for students with difficulties concentrating. Students with learning disabilities or ADHD often need to work in an environment that is quiet so that they can concentrate.
  4. Presence of sign-language interpreters in class.
  5. Preferential seating arrangements such as allowing students to sit close to the instructor to facilitate lip reading, or see the blackboard better.
  6. Printed materials in alternate format such as Braille, large text, books on tape, or electronic text.
