Reasonable Accommodations Basic Principles
- Be open to students with disabilities by welcoming all students and inviting them to disclose. Let students know your class is accessible to all students. One way to do
this is by including a statement on your syllabus such as:
“If you feel that you need accommodations for a disability, please contact me privately to discuss your needs.
Please also contact the disability support center to coordinate reasonable accommodations for students with documented disabilities.”
- Be open to accommodations requested by students or your disability support office staff.
- Disability-related information is considered medical information and subject to strict confidentiality rules so keep students' records and correspondence with your disability
support office secure and confidential.
- Do not mention students’ disabilities to the class.
